Richmond Tigers

Although a Richmond Football Club was formed as early as 1860, the club that predates the present club was not formed until 1885.

They joined the VFA in 1885 but did not taste success until 1902 and again winning the premiership in 1905

They were not asked to join the VFL in 1897 as they were not considered good enough.

They applied in 1907 and were admitted along with University. They broke through for their first premiership in 1920 and won another flag the year after. Again in the 1930's they tasted success in 1932 and 1934 with the legendary Jack Dyer as a member of the team. With Dyer as Captain-Coach they again won in 1943.

Premiership success did not come until the 1960's under coach Tom Hafey when they won the flag in 1967, 1969, 1973, 1974 and again in 1980 under Tony Jewell.

Richmond were initially nicknamed the "Yellow and Black Angels" or "The Wasps". This was changed to the "Tigers" in 1921.

In 1982 a cover was issued commemorating their appearance in the Grand Final showing the Club's logo.

Richmond played its initial games at Punt Road. It now plays its home games at the MCG and uses Punt Road as its training ground.
