The GAA is run as a
pyramid administration with its controlling influence
permeating right down to the 2,500 clubs which are often
based on local areas, parishes or educational
institutions. The clubs play for
local county championships and if successful also for
the All Ireland Club Championship on Saint Patrick's
Day. Club players may earn the right to play for their
county, one of thirty two, which play the All Ireland
Series, culminating in the final at Croke Park in
September. Players for the Counties may represent their
Province, Leinster, Munster, Ulster and Connaught which
play for the Railway Cup.
A further Post secondary Educational
Institution competition is also played as the Third
Level. Club teams may include teams from senior to
Under-10 as well as Primary and Secondary School
competitions.
Teams are also outside Ireland in
Australia, NZ, North America, Africa and Europe. |
