International & Local Stamp Shows

Ausipex 84
Ausipex 84 was held in Melbourne from the 21st to the 30th September 1984. Australia Post issued a single 30c "Kangaroo and map" stamp (Australia's first stamp) on stamp one month before and on the opening day issued a large souvenir sheet with the first stamp of each of the colonies and the first stamp of the federation.

Many countries also issued stamps, miniature sheets, souvenir sheets and covers, many with an Australian Theme. As the VFL grand final was played during the show it was only fitting that stamps with an Aussie Rules theme should be issued. Antigua and Barbuda are members of the Leeward Island group in the British West Indies. They issued two stamps (shown below) with a Fisrt Day Cover ,  one showing "Aussie Rules" and the other "Grass skiing", and a miniature sheet with a single stamp showing a boomerang. All were also overprinted "Barbuda mail".

An Ausipex Album of the stamps of all the Postal Administrations was also released.

Also issued was a cover and Miniature sheet by the Hutt River Province Principality. This is an area of Western Australian were a farmer, Prince Leonard, unilaterally declared his farm an independent country. The province issues stamps which would be considered cinderellas.
